Short Treatise on Brutality is a performance art piece that was conceptualized within the framework of a unique rage room, in which participants were given the opportunity to spend 5 minutes alone to express and release their pent-up anger. As a receptacle for their emotions, the artist acted as a trigger to provoke and channel their rage. Prior to entering the room, all participants were required to sign a contract that outlined the parameters of the interaction with the artist. The performance spanned 4 hours, during which both visitors and the artist tested their physical and emotional limits. Notably, 37 individuals participated in this poignant exploration of the human experience of anger and brutality. The performance speaks to the need for safe spaces that enable people to vent their feelings in a healthy and constructive manner, while also acknowledging the often-destructive nature of unchecked anger.
